Dear Parents, Friends and Allies,

You know how important the acceptance and support of family are to people in the LGBTQ community. In our young PFLAG chapter we have witnessed it firsthand. One evening after our monthly meeting a young member of our group asked that we meet her family. You see, it was Coming-Out Day and that was her intent. Several of our members went home with her. There for the first time, our young friend spoke her truth to her family. She was met with unconditional love from her family. To say the very least it was heart-warming moment.  It has been our experience that this is not always the case. Coming out to family can be a crossroad’s moment. Some of our circle have lost family and friends by exposing their authentic selves. For those who are not out, or who find acceptance difficult to find in everyday life PFLAG of Stuart provides a safe and supportive space. Our mission is to support, educate, and advocate. We are proud to say that for two years -- that is precisely what we’ve done in Martin County. It’s clear that we’re on to something as our chapter has grown from our first meeting with several folks in attendance to our last meeting with 29 members filling the space.  Our membership list shows just over 300 friends and allies. In the words of one member; “growing up I prayed for a PFLAG chapter for my parents.”

Your support is crucial to our efforts to continue our important work. If you’re able, we’d love it if you could make a donation of any amount to help us achieve our mission. It is our ardent hope that PFLAG of Stuart helps bring about awareness and changes attitudes toward the LGBTQ community in Martin and St. Lucie Counties on the Treasure Coast. Thank you in advance for your contribution. Your donation will go toward our attendance at area PRIDE festivals, educational conferences and organizational supplies.
